Earlville to hold new Summer Fest

Posted

EARLVILLE - Due to a shortage of Earlville Lions members, the membership voted to partner with all interested non-profit groups and churches to be included in a two-day celebration. The event will be called Earlville Summer Fest and is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, June 22-23. This cooperative effort will enable the Lions to have more activities and make it available to more groups to make money with their activities.

As in the past, the Earlville Lions will have their pork chop dinner, a Draw Down, free blue grass music, a free street dance with the band “Big Uproar” and a beer garden.

Tickets for the Draw Down are $40, which includes two pork chop dinners. Draw Down tickets are available at McConville Realty & Auctioneering (612 S. Main St., Mendota), First State Bank Insurance, the Barber Shop and from Earlville Lions Club members. The Draw Down’s 1st prize will be $1,000, 2nd prize $500, 3rd prize $250 and many other cash prizes.

The pork chop dinner tickets may also be purchased that night. Serving will be from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and carry outs will be available.

The Earlville Lions motto is “We Serve” and it has been instrumental in the summer ball program, Helping Hands with free food distributions to the needy, eyeglasses for the needy, scholarships, Boys and Girls State, downtown Christmas decorations, as well as many other community activities.

The economy of the area at this time makes selling tickets to the Draw Down very difficult. This year without the support of the community, the Lions will not be able to support these and other programs.

Due to the age of Earlville Lions members, they are in need of younger members. The membership is open to men and women. The future of the Earlville Lions to serve the community is in the hands of the youth of the community. Please contact an Earlville Lions member to join the Lions. The new fiscal year begins on July 1. Membership dues are $65 per year, which includes memberships in the Earlville Lions, Lions International and the Illinois State Lions. The Lions ask everyone to please help them serve the community.
