PERU - The medical director of the Illinois Valley Community Hospital emergency department, Dr. Paul Bonucci, is now board-certified in addiction medicine.
Dr. Bonucci received the certification from the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) in January. He is also certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
The ABPM says addiction medicine is concerned with the prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery of persons with the disease of addiction, of those with substance-related health conditions, and of people who show unhealthy use of substances including nicotine, alcohol, prescription medications and other licit and illicit drugs.
A resident of Princeton, Dr. Bonucci has been medical director of the IVCH emergency department since 2008.
