MENDOTA – A 28-year-old man was arrested after an incident at CVS Pharmacy in Mendota on Oct. 12.
Theaier Kartoum, of Burbank, was charged with possession of stolen property over $500 and possession of a controlled substance. The subject was found with over $2,200 in suspected stolen property in his vehicle and 31 packages of Suboxone in his possession.
According to a police report, the Mendota Police Department was called to investigate the report of a retail theft at CVS Pharmacy, 1212 13th Ave., Mendota. Responding officers met with security staff at CVS and were able to identify a suspect vehicle. Officers were notified that the suspect fled the store, entered a vehicle and went southbound on Illinois Route 251. Officers relayed this information to the Peru Police Department due to recent related retail thefts in which these subjects and vehicle were in from a retail theft in September.
A short time later, Peru officers located the suspect vehicle at Walgreen’s 1033 Shooting Park Road, Peru, and Kartoum was taken into custody.
The LaSalle County State’s Attorney approved felony charges for Kartoum on the two offenses and further investigation is pending. The subject was transported to the LaSalle County Jail where he was awaiting a bond hearing.
