OTTAWA - The Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra has announced the winners of the 2020 Young Performers Competition, which was held at Ottawa High School on Jan. 4.
The Junior Division winner was Nora Maier, performing Fauré’s “Pie Jesu.” Nora, an eighth grader at Parkside School, is the daughter of Brandi Anderson-Maier and Michael Maier of Peru. Her voice instructor is Jenilyn Roether.
Winner of the Senior Division was Emma Anderson, performing Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto, first movement. Emma, a senior at LaSalle-Peru High School, is the daughter of Todd and Doreen Anderson of Oglesby. Her trumpet instructor is Dave Peterson.
Winners in both divisions will be featured soloists with the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 8 at Ottawa High School. They will also perform with the IVSO at two educational school concerts on Feb. 21 at OHS.
The runners-up and honorable mention winners will be featured at an Honors Recital at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7 at the Westclox Fine Arts Factory, 408 Fifth St., Peru.
Sponsors for the March 8 concert are season sponsors Regional Media and Ottawa Radio. Concert sponsor is Miller Group Charitable Trust.
