MENDOTA – Three people were charged with numerous offenses after they led police on a vehicle chase on June 23.
At approximately 3:20 a.m., Mendota police observed a vehicle speeding in the 200 block of Cherry Street. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit began on Cherry Street west of First Avenue. The vehicle continued south on East Third Road and later crashed in a corn field off of East Third Road just south of North 38th Road. Two subjects were observed running on foot from the vehicle.
Once back-up units arrived from the Mendota Police Department, the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Department, Peru Police K9 Unit and District 17 Illinois State Police, three subjects were taken into custody.
Later, Mendota police officers recovered numerous stolen items from burglaries reported days earlier.
Edwin Omar Aponte, 21, of Bensenville, was charged with resisting/obstructing a peace officer, two charges of possession of stolen property, reckless driving, driving too fast for conditions, two charges of disobeying a stop sign, two charges of speeding (39 mph in a 30 mph zone and 92 mph in a 55 mph zone), aggravated fleeing or eluding police, no valid driver’s license, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, illegal transportation of alcohol, failure to signal when required (right turn) and failure to yield at an intersection.
Dana M. Fritz, 21, of Bensenville, was charged with resisting/obstructing a peace officer, possession of stolen property and permitting an unauthorized person to drive.
Jaymz R. Ansari, 22, of Carol Stream, was charged with possession of stolen property.
All three subjects were transported to the LaSalle County Jail.
