KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College Athletic Department and each athletic program are proud to announce their award winners for the 2019-2020 academic year.
Recipients of the Joseph F. Simmons Award are Elizabeth Willis, women’s track & field, and Ivan Esquivel, men’s soccer. Willis is the daughter of Brian and Colene Willis of Mendota, and is a 2016 graduate of Mendota High School.
This is the highest athletic honor a graduating senior can receive. It is awarded to one female and one male student-athlete who contributed the most to Carthage College Athletics during their entire career.
During an abbreviated senior season, Willis was named USTFCCCA All-Midwest Region in both the shot put and weight throw, ranked fourth in shot put at 14.26 meters and second in the weight throw with a career-best toss of 19.28 meters, finished first in the shot put (14.07) and weight throw (18.59) at the CCIW Indoor Track and Field Championship, was named CCIW Field Athlete of the Week on Jan. 28 and Feb. 18, was named an All-American in both the shot put and weight throw by the USTFCCCA and was named to the CCIW Winter All-Academic team.
