Oregon kept Mendota winless in the Big Northern Conference after a 71-47 triumph over the Trojans in varsity boys’ basketball action on Feb. 4 at the MHS gym.
The Hawks burned up the net for 28 first-quarter points and they led 28-13 after one. Oregon kept up the onslaught in the second period and took a 50-21 lead to intermission.
Mendota’s top scorer was Emiliano Arteaga with 16 points, while Abraham Guzman and Jae’Shaun Hughes added six points apiece.
The Trojans fell to 0-7 in conference play.

St. Bede handed the Trojans a 73-48 nonconference loss on Feb. 5 at Peru.
The Bruins jumped on Mendota early, grabbing a 21-13 advantage after the opening stanza. The count was 36-22 at the half and 58-35 after three.
Emiliano Arteaga was the lone Trojan in double digits with 17 points. Chris Sandoval, Gavin Glazebrook and Krew Bond each provided five markers.

A tall and talented Plano team overwhelmed the Trojans, 66-27, on Feb. 8 at the MHS gym.
The Reapers deployed a blanketing full-court trapping press that Mendota had trouble breaking. Plano turned many of Mendota’s 25 turnovers into easy baskets.
The Trojans got a three-pointer from Emiliano Arteaga to take a 3-0 lead, but then Plano reeled off the next 29 points to put the game away.
Cole Stremlau led Mendota (2-26) with six points.
