MENDOTA – Veterans and the public will be welcomed to The Hume-Carnegie Museum on Washington Street in Mendota for an open house to honor all veterans on Sunday, Nov. 14 from 1-3 p.m.

This year, veterans Mary Arlene Lucas, Air Force nurse; Jim Shirey, Army printer; Lonny Eisenberg, Navy yeoman; and Laurel Chapman, Navy recruiter; have been interviewed and their military careers are now narrated on DVD. These DVDs, as well as others in the museum’s archives recorded over the past 10 years, will be available for viewing.

In addition, their photos and service mementos will be on display. This year, there is also an “in memoriam” section. Three local deceased veterans – Dennis Piller, Army-Vietnam; Donald Bieser, Navy-WWII Pacific; and Lyle Wendel, Coast Guard – will be remembered thanks to items provided by their families. The Bieser family has also provided great photos and articles about Pat Frizol Bieser, Donald’s wife, who contributed to boosting the morale of troops toward the end of WWII as a USO performer in Europe.

The museum welcomes the veterans and the public on this free admission day. The north door of the museum off of Washington Street leads to an elevator for anyone needing it.
