OTTAWA – The Mendota Lady Trojans saw their tennis season end at the Ottawa Class 1A Sectional on Oct. 15.
In singles play, Mendota’s Alex Stremlau was defeated by Claire Vogel of Streator 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 and Jackie Cortez fell to Paige Kraml of St. Bede 6-4, 7-6.
Both of Mendota’s doubles teams were able to win their first matches before being eliminated from the tournament in the next round.
KayLee Barkman and Alexis Finley teamed up for Mendota to defeat a duo from Kankakee, 6-0, 6-0, before losing to a LaSalle-Peru team, 6-1, 6-1.
Lizzie Bresley and Zoe Finley was the other doubles team for the Lady Trojans and they won their first match over Kankakee Bishop McNamara, 6-1, 6-0. However, they were knocked out of the tournament by a duo from Morris, 6-0, 6-1.
Ottawa was the team champion with 28 points. LaSalle-Peru finished second with 21 points, followed by Morris (18) and Coal City (13). Mendota took fifth place with eight points. The rest of the field included Streator (6), Pontiac (4), St. Bede (4), Kankakee (2) and Kankakee Bishop McNamara (0).
