MENDOTA – Rockford Christian came out on fire to open the game and coasted to a 71-24 triumph over the Mendota sophomore boys’ basketball team on Feb. 10 at the MHS gym.

The visitors poured in 28 first-quarter points while the Trojans managed only seven as the game was decided in a hurry. Christian held a 45-17 halftime lead and a 67-19 cushion after three periods.

Johnathan Cortez paced the Trojans in scoring with eight points, while Isaac Guzman dropped in six tallies.

“Our guys played hard, but could not match the scoring of Rockford Christian,” said Mendota coach Nick Ganz. “The guys worked their tails off and got every loose ball and did a good job of boxing out a bigger Christian team.”

Guzman netted 11 points and Ryne Strouss chipped in with five for Mendota.
