ROCHELLE – The Mendota varsity boys’ soccer team put a bow on an undefeated season with an 8-1 thrashing of Rochelle on Oct. 7 at the Rochelle field.
The Trojans (19-0) got three goals from Yahir Diaz to run his season total to 41. Diaz now holds the school record for total goals scored, goals in a season, total assists and assists in a season.
Also getting in on the goal-scoring action were Izaiah Nanez and Johnathan Cortez with two apiece and Jasiel Watson with one.
Edgar Arteaga and Ricky Orozco each had two assists, while Diaz and Watson had one apiece.
Mendota played its first regional tournament game on Tuesday. A win would vault the Trojans into the championship game on Friday, Oct. 15 at 4 p.m. at Serena.
