MHS harriers race in St. Bede Regional

PERU – The season ended for the Mendota High School cross country teams at the St. Bede Class 1A Regional on Oct. 24 at Peru.

The Trojan boys finished eighth in the team standings with 191 points. Amboy won the regional championship with 50 points. Other teams placing ahead of Mendota were Sterling Newman (92), Seneca (97), Pontiac (121), Minonk Fieldcrest (129), Rock Falls (144) and Lowpoint-Washburn (152). Rounding out the team standings were St. Bede (262), Henry-Senachwine (269), Ottawa Marquette (274), Hall (312), Newark (328) and Princeton (366).

Alex Hermosillo was the first Trojan runner to finish, in 31st place with a time of 18:53. Ty Connelly was next in 35th at 18:55, followed by Trent Stamberger (38th, 18:58) and Dagen Setchell (42nd, 19:02). Also in the MHS lineup were Andrew Stamberger (51st, 19:23), Elijah Arjes (68th, 20:12) and Billy Hall (88th, 21:34).

Lucas Hoffman of Ottawa Marquette was the individual champion with a time of 16:33.

The Lady Trojans had three runners competing in the regional. Alayna Nosalik was 31st in a time of 23:43, Jamie Dooley placed 36th in 24:08 and Val Valdez was 65th in 28:07.

Calin Gaulrapp of Rock Falls took top individual honors with a clocking of 20:11.

Rock Falls claimed the team title with 29 points. Other top five teams were Seneca (55), Henry-Senachwine (102), Princeton (112) and Amboy (114). Lowpoint-Washburn (172), Ottawa Marquette (177), St. Bede (190) and Minonk Fieldcrest (214) completed the team standings.
