KINGSTON – The Mendota High School cross country team opened its 2021 season at Walcamp in Kingston on Aug. 26 against runners from host school Genoa-Kingston, Elgin Harvest Christian, North Boone and Stillman Valley.
The girls’ race of 22 was won by Eva Camp of Harvest Christian (19:50), with Genoa-Kingston’s Kaitlyn Jerbi placing second (21:45) and Harvest Christian’s Emma Leslie (23:18) taking third. Fourth place belonged to Mendota's lone runner, Aliza Salinas-Cervantes, posting a time of 24:31.
Harvest Christian earned the top team score of 27 points, followed by Genoa-Kingston (39) and Stillman Valley (57)
In the boys' run, Harvest Academy took seven of the top eight finishes, led by Daniel Winkelman (16:11), David Peterson (17:20) and Carson Welsh (17:32). Mendota harriers each finished in the top half of the field with Anthony Kelson (9th, 19:47), Alex Hermosillo (10th, 19:51), Andrew Stamberger (12th, 20:22) and Dagen Setchell (13th, 21:35).
Harvest Christian tallied a perfect 15 to win, followed by Genoa Kingson (50).
