MENDOTA – The Mendota Lady Trojans advanced out of the first round of the Chillicothe IVC Class 1A Regional Soccer Tournament with a 6-0 shutout victory over IVC in a play-in game on May 4 at the MHS field.
Mendota was scheduled to battle Rock Island Alleman in a semifinal-round contest on Tuesday night in Chillicothe. A Lady Trojan victory would propel them into the championship match at 6 p.m. Friday, May 11 in Chillicothe against either Princeton or Stanford Olympia.
The Lady Trojans scored four goals in the first half against IVC, beginning with a goal off the foot of Esmeralda Perez 13:08 into the contest. Just over three minutes later, Daisy Arteaga had a wide-open shot at the goal and converted to give Mendota a 2-0 lead.
Amellia Bromenschenkel scored two straight to give the Lady Trojans a 4-0 lead. She found the net on a rebound off of a corner kick at the 23:45 mark, and then tallied on a breakaway at 26:08.
Mendota put two more goals on the board in the second half. Piper Artman scored on a penalty kick at 57:11 and Arteaga got her second goal of the night off an assist from Perez to complete the scoring.
