COMPTON - Maynard Hoelzer, 90, passed away Jan. 5, 2022 at Pleasant View Health Center in Ottawa.

A private family graveside service will be held at Twin Grove Cemetery in Steward with Pastor Ken Foster officiating.

Maynard was born July 31, 1931 in Compton to Edward and Hilda (Winter) Hoelzer. He married Mary Lou Barnhart on Aug. 7, 1954 in Scarboro.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mary Lou Hoelzer of Compton; one son, Hal (Marcel Stumbo) Hoelzer of Mendota; four grandchildren, Kye Witek of International Falls, Minn., Devin Witek of Oglesby, Zack Witek of Steward, and Madeline Hoelzer of Mendota; one son-in-law, John Witek of Steward; and two siblings, Dennis (Judy) Hoelzer of Peyton, Colo. and Marion Neal of Shabbona.

He was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Hoelzer; one daughter, Natalie Witek; and three siblings, Violet Williams, Kenneth Hoelzer and Milton Hoelzer.

Maynard farmed in the Compton area his entire life. He served in the U.S. Army in France during the Korean War. A passion of his was dancing and he would go whenever he could.
