MENDOTA - Mary E. McCauley, 88, of Mendota passed away Dec. 17, 2021.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 on Tuesday, Dec. 21 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. Peter Pilon officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross cemetery. Visitation will take place at Wasmer Funeral Home on Monday, Dec. 20 from 4-7 p.m. with a 4 p.m. rosary. Masks and social distancing guidelines are preferred. Wasmer Funeral Home is privileged to assist the family.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Matt Schifeling, Nick McCauley, Josh Bernardin, Jordan Bernardin, Zach Bernardin and Ben McCauley. Honorary pallbearers will be Jacquelyn Warren, Amanda McCauley, Corey McCauley, Haley Engel, Aaron McCauley and Alex McCauley.

Mary was born Dec. 22, 1932 in Mendota to William and Anna (Schneider) Klein. She married Joseph Oscar McCauley on July 25, 1953 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Peterstown. He preceded her in death on May 29, 2014.

Survivors include four sons, Larry (Judy) McCauley of Dunlap, John (Bev) McCauley of Mendota, Kevin McCauley of Ottawa and Mark (Kimberly) McCauley of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter, Bonnie (Ken) Bernardin of Rochelle; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold “Mick” Klein of Spring Valley; and one sister, Bertha Sondgeroth of Mendota.

She was preceded by her husband, Oscar; one son, Bruce McCauley on Aug. 28, 2017; six brothers, Ray, Gilbert, Joe, Leroy, Ed and Bill; and three sisters, Hilda Klein, Dorothy Weiman and Margaret Biers.

During her work career, Mary was employed at Conkey’s and the egg factory for two years each, and was a waitress at Parkway Restaurant in Mendota for 27 years. While her children were in school, she was involved in the Holy Cross Parents Club and enjoyed some women’s card clubs through the years. She was a faithful member of Holy Cross Church.
