MENDOTA – The Mendota Museum & Historical Society and the Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring a photography contest, “Capture Our Town.” Entries are now being accepted through July 6.

All area resident amateur photographers of all ages are encouraged to capture those candid photos that show what makes our city and area unique. The Hume-Carnegie Museum and Chamber members will display the photos over the next three months through Sweet Corn Festival weekend.

Purchase prizes of $25 in each category will be awarded. A maximum of seven entries will be allowed for each photographer. Any photo deemed inappropriate will be rejected. The Museum staff has the final say. Those entering photos must complete an entry agreement.

Categories for your photo hunt include:

  • Winter wonderland
  • In the Good Ol’ Summertime
  • “Iconic” structures easily recognized, past or present
  • On the Tracks, in or around the railroad
  • Athletes in Action, backyard or organized sports
  • Down on the Farm
  • Miscellaneous, anything goes/novelty

Each photo must be labeled with the category you wish to enter. More than one photo may be entered in a category. Photos will be judged by a professional photographer.

The museum and Chamber reserve the right to display your photos in their buildings or around Mendota (i.e., store windows).

Entry forms are available at Hume Carnegie Museum, 901 Washington St., and the Mendota Chamber office, 800 Washington St. Entries may be delivered to the museum or the Chamber office.
