ROCKFORD – The Rockford University softball team had a pair of players recognized by the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference when the NACC released its all-conference awards on May 2.
Junior outfielder Emily Cox (Erie, Ill.) and freshman pitcher Rylee Klema (Mendota, Ill.) were both voted Second Team All-NACC by the conference's 12 coaches. This marks the first time since 2014 that Rockford has had an All-NACC performer, and the first time since 2008 that the Regents have had two players receive All-NACC status.
Klema became the first ever RU freshman softball player to earn Second Team All-NACC honors. Klema burst onto the scene this year, leading the Rockford pitching staff and finishing in the top two in the conference in five categories. She finished the regular season as the NACC leader in innings pitched (218.2), complete games (28) and appearances (37) and tied for first in the conference with 14 wins. Klema was also second in the NACC with 110 strikeouts. Klema's 37 pitching appearances also tied the school record in addition to leading the NACC. At the national level, Klema concluded the regular season 47th in all of NCAA Division III in wins and 55th in strikeouts.
