COMPTON - Irene Clayton, 86, formerly of Compton, passed away peacefully at her home on April 16, 2020 surrounded by family.

Cremation care has been provided. Private services will be held for the family with a memorial to be announced for friends and extended family at a later date.

Irene was born in Keenes on Oct. 21, 1933 to Lulu and Fred Keen. She married Roger White on Nov. 26, 1949. She married Dale Clayton on July 20, 1963.

Survivors include her children, Ronald (Joel Sterkes) White of Xenia, Kathy (Randy Weller) Daniels of Hillsboro, Steven (Dawn) White of Ashton, Patricia Doyle of Streator, Mary (David) Stumpenhorst of Esmond, Randy (Barbara) White of Steward, Michael (Karla) Clayton of Buffalo, Mo. and Mark (Sheri) Clayton of Paw Paw; three stepchildren, Richard (Gisela) Clayton of Compton, Shirley Olivier of Rochelle and Doris Grimley of Rochelle; 33 grandchildren; 104 great- and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale Clayton; one stepson, Orville Clayton; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Keen; and two sisters, Doris Harris and Ruby Hildreth.

More than anything Irene loved spending time with family. She was an avid cook, gardener and home canner. Her other favorite pastimes included card playing, fishing and dancing. She will be remembered for her ability to entertain a crowd with her storytelling and her openness to welcome anyone into her home. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
