MENDOTA - George A. Fountain, 77, of Mendota, left this earth to be with our Lord and Savor Feb. 14, 2022 at Generations at Neighbors, Byron.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 25 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with Rev. Jay Miller officiating. Cremation rites will follow and private burial will be at Restland Cemetery, Mendota at a later date. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Friday.
George was born Nov. 30, 1944 in Thomasville, Ga. to Hoke and Pearl (Kirgan) Fountain. He was a longtime resident of Mendota where he met his wife, Judy Kowalski and raised five children. She preceded him in death in 1999.
Survivors include his five children, Laura Chapman of Texas, Debbie (Tom) Terry of Depue, Brenda (Gary) Dobbs of Stillman Valley, David (Luanne) Chapman of LaSalle and Melissa (Robert) Collier of Tennessee; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sarah Rodatz of North Carolina and Eleanor (Andy) Ridge of Mendota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two siblings, Hoke S. Fountain and Jean Hensley; one granddaughter, Jennifer Terry; and a great-granddaughter, Jennifer Cloe Terry.
George was a man of God and a loving husband, brother and father. He enjoyed fishing, telling stories, building and repairing boats and making hand tied flies. He and his wife owned and operated Bait and Tackle in Mendota. He was a longtime member of the Mendota Moose Lodge and Victory Baptist Church in Mendota.
