MENDOTA – Mendota’s freshman boys’ basketball team squeaked past Rock Falls, 30-29, on Feb. 17 at the MHS gym.
The Trojans led throughout the first half, taking a 17-13 lead to intermission. Rock Falls clawed back to knot the score at 22-all after three periods, but Mendota was one point better than the Rockets in the fourth to claim the victory.
Ryan Stevenson paced Mendota scorers with 12 points, including seven in the crucial fourth quarter. Kaleb Kleckner and Logan Dewey chipped in with five points apiece.

The Trojans put another mark in the win column with a 26-21 triumph over Genoa-Kingston on Feb. 20 at the MHS gym.
Mendota trailed 10-6 after the opening stanza, but came back to take a 19-18 halftime lead. The Trojans failed to score in the third period and G-K put three points on the board to grab a 21-19 advantage, but Mendota held the visitors scoreless in the fourth frame and scored seven points of its own to pull out the win.
Stevenson topped the scoring column with eight points and Dewey contributed five markers.
