MENDOTA - Dorothy May (Newcomer) Baker, 98, formerly of Mendota, passed away Oct. 30, 2020 at Heritage Health, Peru.
There will be no visitation or funeral. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7 at Waltham Cemetery with Rev. Colleen Lawrence officiating. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota is handling arrangements.
Dorothy was born June 20, 1922 to Edwin and Agnes (Small) Newcomer. She married Charles H. Baker on Sept. 19, 1945 at Sacred Heart Church, Dimmick. He preceded her in death in 2008 after 62 years of marriage.
Survivors include three daughters, Arlene (Gary) Bauer of rural LaSalle, Sandra (Steve) Morris of Chillicothe and Cathy Jacobs of Princeton; one daughter-in-law, Judy Baker of rural Utica; one sister, Mary Hodgson; a sister-in-law, Marie Newcomer; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Edwin in 2018; one granddaughter, Geri Kaye Uloth in 2013; and two brothers, Wesley and Wilfred Newcomer.
Dorothy grew up in Waltham Township and graduated from LaSalle-Peru High School in 1941. After her marriage, she and Charles raised their family and farmed in Waltham, Dimmick and Troy Grove townships. Dorothy loved animals and was always taking care of them along with her family. Her pumpkin pie and egg noodle recipes were second to none and have yet to be duplicated by any other.
