MENDOTA - Betty L. Shaw, 87, of Mendota passed away Oct. 25, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Due to a family member testing positive for COVID-19, visitation will be delayed. Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. Wasmer Funeral Home, Mendota was privileged to assist the family.
Betty was born Nov. 24, 1932 in LaSalle to Andrew and Ethyl Mae (Moody) Frey. She married Billy M. “Arkie” Shaw at the First Baptist Church, Mendota on Sept. 24, 1953. He preceded her in death on July 24, 1988.
Survivors include one daughter, Dessa (Keith) Collings of Mendota; six grandchildren, Justin Collings, Meghan Caley, Chelsea Maunu, Adam Hamilton and Jacob Hamilton; two step grandchildren, Ian Hamilton and Valerie Humphrey; and six great-grandchildren, Mason, Madison, Toby, Madalynn, Layne and Freya.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Linda Hamilton on March 17, 2012; one son, Edward J. Shaw on Jan. 3, 2020; one brother, Andrew “Brick” Frey; and one brother, Edward R. Frey in infancy.
During her work career, Betty was employed at HCC, Inc. as a coating remover - or as she said, “They called me the stripper.” She was involved in the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as vice president and sergeant-at-arms, and was a Junior Auxiliary Leader for the American Legion for eight years. She was involved in Campfire Girls, Cub Scouts, her Local U.A.W., the Women of the Moose, and the First United Methodist Church.
