OTTAWA – The LaSalle County Genealogy Guild will host speaker, Dr. Daniel Habbard on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. at the guild library, 115 W. Glover St. in Ottawa.
Habbard will present “DNA Behind the Scenes.”
Habbard started in genealogy at the age of 11 and has been researching his family history ever since. His ancestors began arriving in North America nearly 400 years ago. They were English, Scot-Irish, German, Welsh, Irish, French and probably Dutch.
A life-long obsession for science and research resulted in eight years of living in France while working at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, just over the border in Switzerland. During that time he earned a Ph.D in high energy physics from the University of Michigan and had a postdoctoral position with Harvard. There he met his wife and they eventually moved to her native land of Sweden.
Currently, he is serving as president of the Lake County Genealogical Society and is a member of the advisory board of the Swedish-American Center in Chicago.
Habbard will discuss different DNA tests and answer questions.
