MENDOTA – Members of the VFW Post 4079 Auxiliary met on March 9 for a monthly business meeting.

Committee reports included from Graves Registration the death of member Bill Knowlton. Members approved sending a memorial to the VFW National Home for Children in his memory.

Hospital report showed that a member had made four walker bags and three draw string bags. LaSalle Veteran’s Home has plenty of these items, so they will be sent to another facility.

Members received the VFW Action Report via email as part of the Legislative report. Membership report announced that there are four members that owe dues for this year. They will be contacted again.

Under Old Business members discussed sending funds to Special Olympics. It was decided to make a donation to the Mendota Police Department’s Polar Plunge which is a fund raiser for Special Olympics.

Under new business, members approved sponsoring a young lady from MHS to go to Girls State.

The auxiliary is in charge of the April Steak Fry and a sign-up sheet for workers, salads or desserts was sent around. This event is one of the major fund raisers for the year. All members are expected to help in some way. Contact the officers if you are able to help.

Members also had the opportunity to purchase VFW sweatshirts in red, navy or army green.

Upcoming events include the Steak Fry on Saturday, March 16, with coals ready at 5:30 p.m; and the next meeting on Saturday, April 13 at 11 a.m., preceded by the quarterly audit at 10:30 a.m. Election of officers and delegates to conventions will take place.
