OTTAWA – The LaSalle County Genealogy Guild will meet on Saturday, July 21 at 1 p.m. Guest speaker will be Heinz Suppan of Ottawa.
Suppan is a native of Springfield. He received is Associate of Arts degree at Springfield Junior College, a Bachelor of Arts in History and German at Illinois College in Jacksonville, and a Master’s Degree at the University of Illinois in Springfield. He has authored three books that dealt with Illinois history: Remember Indian Creek, In the Shadow of the Black Hawk War, and Marking Time: The Radium Girls of Ottawa. He has given several presentations at the annual Conference on Illinois History in Springfield, as well.
The title of his presentation is “The Regulators and the Banditti of Northern Illinois.” In the 1830s and 1840s, an organized gang known as the “Banditti of the Prairie” was active on the Midwestern frontier and in particular, in Ogle, DeKalb, and Lee Counties.
The meeting is open to the public.
