MENDOTA - Vicki Ann Setchell, 74, of Mendota passed away Feb. 11, 2021 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford.
Private family graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 16 at Restland Cemetery, Mendota with Rev. Mary Bohall officiating. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota assisted the family.
Vicki was born Jan. 15, 1947 in Mendota to Burthal “Red” and Elizabeth “Betty” (Moore) Stevens.
Survivors include her daughters, Tracy Flaherty of Oveido, Fla. and Abby (Setchell) Anderson of Sterling; her beloved grandchildren, Craig (Gerenne) Skerston of Winter Park, Fla., Curtis (Hallie) Skerston of Red Wing, Minn., Kiefer (Ashley) Skerston of Palm Bay, Fla. and Elizabeth Martin of West Palm Beach, Fla.; her great-grandchildren, Gabriel Skerston, Brayden Skerston, Kora Skerston, and Jasper Skerston; one sister, Terri (Joe) Schmidt of Mendota; many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly; and her cherished feline companion, Sophie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Robert Stevens; an infant sister, Nancy Kay Stevens; and step daughter, Janine Setchell.
Vicki loved her family more than anything and took her role as matriarch very seriously. Her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy and she always made sure that each of them knew that. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, baking and following politics. She was the person everyone went to for advice. She cared greatly about everyone that walked through her door and needed help in any way. For this reason, she was an extra “mom” to so many people through the years. She was an incredibly strong person through the tough times and always made things feel right, when it felt like hope was lost. She was deeply loved by her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Illinois Valley Animal Rescue in her name as this is where her beloved Sophie was rescued from. Online condolences may be left at www.merrittfh.com.
