LA SALLE - The LaSalle Public Library in partnership with Westchester Public Library in Illinois and Marinette County Libraries in Wisconsin will host a virtual discussion with Julius Jones, assistant curator at the Chicago History Museum and Walter Schroeder, district chief at the Chicago Fire Department, on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.

Jones and Schroeder along with a historian from the Peshtigo Fire Museum will discuss the Great Chicago Fire and the Peshtigo Fire.

The Great Chicago Fire happened in October of 1871 causing 300 casualties, destroying 3.3 square miles of the city and leaving more than 100,000 residents homeless. Although it was overshadowed by the Great Chicago Fire, that same day the Peshtigo Fire raged through Peshtigo, Wis. and claimed an estimated 1,500-2,500 lives, destroyed over 1.2 million acres of land and is considered the deadliest wildfire in recorded history.
