MENDOTA — A new Sullivan’s ACE store, located at 1116 Meriden St., Mendota, opened its doors back in May. However, at the initial time of opening, due to Covid-19, the grand opening event was delayed. Events and specials have now been planned to spread over the course of three days, with an outdoor parking lot woodcarving demonstration on Saturday, Oct. 31 to help offset the typical one day event gathering.

Sullivan’s Ace Mendota is the third Ace store owned and operated by J.B. Sullivan, Inc. The first in operation is located in Winnebago, with the second store opening in Savanna in October of 2019. Like the previous two, the Mendota store has been designed to reflect the needs of the Mendota community, including solutions to everyday home maintenance needs and an array of products.

The 12,600-square foot store is filled with thousands of products and supplies from brands including Craftsman, Milwaukee, Weber, Traeger, Benjamin Moore, Stihl, Scotts, and many more. Key product offerings include paint, lawn and garden, hardware, electrical, plumbing, automotive, home décor and also niche products for hunting (to include ammunition), camping and pet supplies. Additional services include glass cutting, screen repairs, key cutting, Duracell keyless entry replacements, and an assortment of equipment rental.

Ace Hardware is not only famous for having all the best brands, they also have a reputation as “the helpful place.” The new store created seven new positions, five of which were filled with local people from Mendota, and two from neighboring communities. When shoppers walk in the door, they are bound to know the “helpful” person waiting on them. The Sullivan family acknowledges that John Erhardt, store manager, and staff have done a fantastic job getting the store opened and set, while also accommodating customers’ requests and needs.

The Sullivan family would like to acknowledge the contractors who participated in the construction that was needed to improve the building: Phalen Steel, Walter Bros Inc., Carriage House Electric, all of Mendota, and Despain Construction of Savanna.

During the three-day Grand Opening Event, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 30 through Sunday, Nov. 1, there will be a Daily Giveaway raffle item for those who enter to win, which include an EGO Power Plus Straight Shaft Battery String Trimmer ($229 value), a Weber Spirit Grill ($379 value) and a Milwaukee Hammer Drill and Impact Driver Kit ($399 value). Other specials include 25 percent off any one regular priced item under $30 on Friday, a free Ace five-gallon bucket (plus 20 percent off everything that fits into the bucket) will be awarded to the first 200 customers on Saturday, and $5 off any purchase of $25 or more of regular priced merchandise on Sunday. In addition, watch for the upcoming Grand Opening ad as it will announce a host of hot buy items at extremely low prices.

Additionally, the store is excited to announce they will also be hosting a Stihl wood-carving demonstration by Waton’s Woods in the parking lot from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31.

A ribbon-cutting will be officiated by the Mendota Chamber of Commerce at noon on Friday, Oct. 30. Grand opening festivities will take place during store hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
