SUBLETTE – Due to the Coronavirus threat, the annual Sublette Farm Toy and Antique Tractor Show was cancelled for 2020. Local officials and show promoters cancelled the show after much deliberation and a meeting with the Lee County Health Department.
Community leaders are thanking people for their understanding. Special thanks is also extended to the many volunteers who had been working to prepare for the show, local businesses, the local 4-H clubs, the Mendota and Amboy FFA students, the fire department, the toy show vendors and everyone involved in preparing for Sublette’s biggest event of the year.
Also, the area media did a great job in getting the word out that the show was being cancelled.
Some parts of the show will still go on, however. On Sunday, March 22, the toy show meal will be prepared by Kevin’s Catering and will be sold as a carry-out meal at the Ellice Dinges Center from noon to 1 p.m. The meal consists of stuffed chicken breast, meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, corn and a dinner roll. The cost is $10 per meal. Purchasers are asked to drive to the front door of the Dinges Center and the meals will be delivered to your car.
Also, 50/50 tickets will still be available at Main Street Repair, Bonnell’s General Store, LaFiesta, Vaessen Brothers Chevrolet, Sublette Elevator and the Dinges Fire Store. Drawing for the 50/50 will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 22.
The five scholarships that are awarded each year will also still be given out. Scholarships are given to the two local 4-H clubs – the Sub-Let Indians and the Maytown Comets. One scholarship is given to a member of the Amboy FFA Chapter and one scholarship is given to a member of the Mendota FFA Chapter in memory of Dan Tastad, one of the original toy show promoters. A scholarship is also given in the name of Max Armstrong to a member of either the Amboy or Mendota FFA chapter.
More good news. The show will go on in 2021. A committee is already making plans for the toy show on the weekend of March 21, 2021. Mark your calendar for next March as the show will be as big as ever.
