HONOLULU, Hawaii - Richard Waldo Sisler, 93, of Hawaii Kai Retirement Community, Honolulu, Hawaii, formerly of Mendota, passed away Dec. 15, 2021.

A remembrance and farewell will be held at a later date at the Hawaii Kai Retirement Community.

Richard was born Dec. 26, 1927 in Lima, Ohio to Gerald R. and Jess F. Sisler, the first of fraternal twin, Robert Sisler. He married Karen T. Fortune in 1960 in Toledo, Ohio.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Todd M. Sisler of Palm Springs, Calif.; nieces, Sharon (John) Albright of Louisville, Ky. and Susan (Tim) Lehmam and nephew Gary R. Sisler of the Louisville area. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Tracy Lynn (Larry W.) Campbell of Texas; and his brother, Robert Sisler of Louisville.

Richard graduated from Lima Central High School in Lima, Ohio and cum laude from Ohio State University with a B.S. degree in Ornamental Horticulture. He worked for three different growers in Ohio before starting his own business, Floralcrest in Mendota with two other partners, Robert Leuzinger and Ralph Urban. The business had one acre under glass and a retail floral shop which operated for 32 years. As a hobby, he painted with oils and watercolor and won several local awards. He and Karen moved to Hawaii in 2006 where he continued his artwork. An additional hobby was raising all kinds of plants on his lanai. Many residents received plants, and trees were given to Hawaii Kai Retirement Community for planting on the property.
