COMPTON - Raymond L. Edwards, 83, was called to be with the angels on Aug. 10, 2021 in Grants Pass, Ore.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 24 at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Compton with Rev. Jeff Schlesinger officiating. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota is assisting the family.

Ray was born Dec. 22, 1937 in Rockford to Eldon and Velma Edwards. He married Karen Schroeder. She preceded him in death.

Survivors include four children, Steven Edwards, Peter (Penny) Edwards and Dena (Wayne) Wenger, all of Rockford and Monica Edwards of Peru; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Schroeder of Mendota.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Ray worked at Borg-Warner and Ingersoll in Rockford. Before retiring, he enjoyed his time as a Community Service Officer with the Belvidere Police Department.
