COMPTON – Peter Tan Hai Phung, 34, of Compton, passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 13, 2023, in LaSalle.

A celebration of life will take place at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, at Templo Cristiano, 100 E. Fourth St., Spring Valley. All friends and family are welcome. The following day Feb. 9, an open mic will be held in his honor, at 9th Street Pub, 253 Ninth, St., La Salle, to celebrate the life of our beloved Phunzetti Ghost. Friends and family are welcome to come sing songs and share stories.

Peter was born on Feb. 21, 1989, in Beverly, Mass., to Somchit and Thiet Van Phung. His family moved to Compton, where he and his brother Jonathan spent their childhood.

Survivors include his brother Jonathan Phung and his vast network of friends.

Peter went to Mendota High School and graduated with the 2007 class. Peter was a larger-than-life character; he was a great person and an even better friend. He enjoyed getting on the road and seeing his friends play music. Anything pop culture Peter loved. An avid collector of comics, action figures, movies, and band T-shirts. Some of his favorite past times were writing music, scripts and creating new costumes for his cosplay characters. He was the ultimate nerd, movie buff, music aficionado, wrestling fan and gamer.

The world lost an amazing brother and friend. He had an infectious laugh and an incredible imagination. Not a day will go by that he will not be missed. Forever in our hearts, Long Live Peterman.
