PAW PAW - Concerns were brought up at the Sept. 8 Paw Paw Village Board about unsolicited “storm-chasers” coming to people’s doors offering roof and siding repairs. Some residents said since the hail-storm, they have had numerous, repeated phone calls and people at their doors.

Residents were reminded that anyone soliciting in the village must have a permit, and no soliciting permits have been issued by the village since the start of COVID-19. If someone comes to the door, residents can advise them that they need a permit and that they will call the sheriff. The Lee County Sheriff’s non-emergency number is (815) 284-6631.

In other business:

• Complaints were heard about unsightly properties. Solutions are being investigated and paperwork is in progress.
• A mirror will be installed on the north side of the Peru Street-Chicago Road intersection for northbound traffic to better see oncoming eastbound traffic.
• A request to make the sidewalk running from the cemetery to the village limits safer for walkers will be addressed.
• Concerns were voiced about the safety of children playing on Wabansi. With cars parked along the street, even dead-end streets can be hazardous for children. Motorists are asked to pay attention to the fact that there are many children on that road and to exercise caution. The village may look into further signage designating children at play on that road.
• The village scheduled trick-or-treating hours in Paw Paw for 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31.

In other news, Paw Paw will have town-wide garage sales on Saturday, Sept. 18.
