MENDOTA – The Mendota Police Department responded on March 24 to the report of a motor vehicle displaying a gunshot hole in the driver’s side door in the 500 block of 12th Avenue. Officers canvassed the area and learned that neighbors had heard what they thought were gun shots the night before. Upon completing the neighborhood canvas, Mendota Police performed an evidence sweep of the area with no articles of evidentiary value located.

At approximately 3:20 p.m., Mendota Police and EMS services responded to the report of an unresponsive male at 507 11th Ave. Upon arrival, officers found a deceased male in the home. Mendota Police determined that multiple firearms had been purportedly fired from the front room of the house, exiting a picture window with the rounds striking neighborhood homes, fences, garages and an automobile.

This matter is still under investigation and no further details are being released at this time. The Mendota Police Department wishes to inform the public that there is no cause for alarm and no current threat stemming from this incident to the neighborhood.

Assisting agencies in this investigation include the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services, LaSalle County States Attorney’s Office and the LaSalle County Coroner’s Office.
