Mendota Elks Lodge announces Teens of the Year

MENDOTA – The Mendota Elks Lodge has announced its 2019/2020 Teens of the Year. They are Katherine Henrikson and Luke Anderson.

Henrikson, a senior at Ohio High School, is the daughter of David and Karen Henrikson. She is currently first in her class and has been on the high honor roll all four years. She has been in the National Honor Society since her junior year.

For her class, she was the Vice-President as a freshman, President as a sophomore and Treasurer as a junior. Henrikson has been in the Science Club all four years, serving as President since her sophomore year. She was also a member of Ohio’s Student Council her sophomore and junior years, serving as the Treasurer her junior year

Among her other activities were being in the Drama Club and participating in the school’s plays her freshman and junior years. She performed in the school’s variety show and took art class her first three years and even won a Best in Show Ribbon her sophomore year.

Henrikson also gives back to the community in her spare time. She has helped with concessions all four years. During the Christmas holiday, she has helped with the Student Council’s Christmas activities her freshman through junior years. She has helped at the Walnut Community Bible Church with Vacation Bible School during her freshman through junior years. She was a part of a mission that went to Indianapolis her sophomore and junior years. During that time, she helped people in that area as well as helped paint a church. Henrikson also assisted with some community yard work and helped paint a house her junior year. She helped a thrift store change locations her sophomore year.

Henrikson enjoys creating things, art, organizing everything and playing with her pets. She likes hanging out with her family and friends. She also likes photography and capturing pictures of nature. She also enjoys helping others that need it.

Henrikson plans to start her college education at a community college majoring in business or accounting.

Luke Anderson, a senior at Ohio High School, is the son of David and Tina Anderson. He is currently second in his class and has been on the honor roll his first three years. He has also been a member of the National Honor Society since his junior year.

Anderson has been a member of the Science Club all four years. During his first three years he was in the Drama Club, Student Council, variety show and school plays. He was in the concert band his freshman and sophomore years. He participated in track and basketball his freshman year. He was in Food Club his sophomore year and has been in FFA since his sophomore year, serving as Secretary his senior year.

Anderson has helped with concessions and the Student Council’s Christmas activities since his freshman year. As a sophomore and junior, he went on mission trips to Indianapolis to help aid communities. He has also assisted in Ohio’s American Red Cross Blood Drives all four years.

He likes to work on small engines and other things that are hands on or mechanical, including restoring old trucks. He also has been working at Sisler’s Ice and Ice Cream for the past two years, and is a farmhand for two farms.

Anderson wants to join the Air Force to become a pilot.
