MENDOTA - Mary Sue Montooth, 99, of Mendota, formerly of Earlville, passed away July 4, 2021 at Heritage Health in Mendota.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13 at Earlville United Methodist Church in Earlville with pastor Sandy Smith officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the time of service at the church. Private burial will be held at a later date.

Mary was born Feb. 6, 1922 in Norfolk, Va. to Edward and Annie (Jakeman) Ireland. She married S. Stuart Montooth on Aug. 10, 1946 in Norfolk, Va. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include three daughters, Rebecca Reckamp of Lake Villa, Dorothy (Robert) McDonald of Hutchinson Island, Fla. and Martha (Kenneth) Krausz of Highland; one son, Edward (Sheila) Montooth of Wilmington, Del.; seven grandchildren, Kevin, Jason and Mark Krausz, and Stephanie, Edward, Thomas and Joseph Montooth; six great-grandchildren, Camden, Iris and Eden Krausz, and Ellie, Addy and Sophie Krausz; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister, Ann Gurkin; two brothers in infancy; and one son-in-law, William Reckamp.

Mary was a member of Earlville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed ballroom dancing with her husband, loved to travel around the United States and internationally, visit her family, and go on canoe and kayaking trips. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Earlville United Methodist Church or The S. Stuart and Mary S. Montooth Scholarship Fund at University of Illinois Foundation, ACES, 1301 W. Gregory Dr., Urbana, IL 61801-9015.
