Lincoln students meet their pen pal

MENDOTA - Mrs. Estrada’s class at Lincoln School recently had the pleasure of paying a visit to local community member Margo Stouffer. For the past two years, Mrs. Stouffer had been a constant pen pal for the students in Mrs. Estrada’s class and they were excited to finally meet this special lady.

The connection started when Mrs. Stouffer asked if she could help Lincoln School by making masks for the students and it morphed into a beautiful friendship. Every month Mrs. Stouffer sends handwritten letters to each student in the class and also sends postcards from her travels. In addition to her correspondence, she includes activity ideas with all the materials necessary so Mrs. Estrada can implement them in her classroom. This winter, she handmade stuffed “monsters” for each student and gave each student a copy of the book, “The Monster at the End of this Book.”

Mrs. Stouffer has certainly enriched the lives of the students in Mrs. Estrada’s class and they look forward to her mailings. Through this, they are learning how to write and make meaningful connections with others through their words. Mrs. Stouffer has sparked a genuine interest in writing for the students.

Lincoln School is so grateful for community members, like Mrs. Stouffer, who make a difference in the lives of students.
