MENDOTA - Julie A. Bonnell, 61, of Mendota passed away Oct. 19, 2021 at Heritage Health Mendota after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 22 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21 with a 4 p.m. rosary at Wasmer Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Kent Frey, Doug Frey, Gordon Frey, Zacary Bonnell, Patrick Bonnell and Cory Myers.
Julie was born Sept. 19, 1960 in Mendota to Clayton and Mary Margaret (Phalen) Frey. She married Martin “Marty” A. Bonnell on April 23, 1994. He preceded her in death on April 28, 2005.
Survivors include two sons, Zacary (Lauren) Bonnell of Rockford, Mich. and Patrick Bonnell of Mendota; one daughter, Marissa (Billy Bender) Bonnell of Mendota; a grandson, Carter and a second grandbaby on the way; and three brothers, Doug (Karole) Frey of Mendota, Gordon Frey of Mendota, and Kent Frey of Ottawa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother, Greg on Sept. 22, 1983.
Julie was a 1978 graduate of Mendota High School and attended Robert Morris Medical Tech in Iowa. During her work career, she was employed by OSF Medical Group as their front office receptionist and scheduler. Her family and work were most important to her, and her grandson was the “light” of her life.
