PEORIA - The Greater Peoria Honor Flight has announced their flight dates for 2020. The three confirmed flight dates to Washington, D.C. this year will be April 28, May 28 and Sept. 8. A possible fourth date may be added in October.

Thanks to generous donations from the community, nearly 300 veterans will be able to see the memorials in Washington, D.C. that were built to honor their service and sacrifice. This is a very memorable day for veterans and the guardians who take them on the trip.

Veterans fly at no cost on Honor Flights; their guardians pay a $500 fee to escort the veteran. Every flight taken by Greater Peoria Honor Flight costs approximately $85,000. They rely on the generosity of the community through various events and fundraisers to help fund these flights.

The public is invited to attend the “Welcome Home” celebrations that are held on the evening of each flight day at the General Wayne A. Downing International Airport in Peoria. Shuttles to the airport will be available at the CEFCU (5401 Everett Dirksen Parkway) parking lot beginning at 8 p.m. Veterans arrive back in Peoria around 9:30 p.m. This has proved to be a very patriotic experience for all involved.
