MENDOTA - Glenn E. Truckenbrod, 82, of Mendota passed away March 3, 2021 at OSF St. Anthony’s Medical Center, Rockford.

Per Glenn’s wishes cremation rites have been accorded. A private family graveside will be held on Tuesday, March 16 at Restland Cemetery, Mendota with Rev. Ken Gibson officiating. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota is handling arrangements.

Glenn was born Feb. 5, 1939 in Mendota to Earl and Pearl (Bauer) Truckenbrod.

Survivors include one brother, Thomas Truckenbrod of Mendota; two nephews, Steve Truckenbrod of Durham, N.C. and Todd (Julie) Truckenbrod of Angora, Minn.; two great-nieces, Keirnan and Kyllianne; one great-nephew, Kaine Truckenbrod; a great-great-niece, Bexley Annalee; and special friend and companion, Joan Wenzel.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lyle Truckenbrod.

Glenn attended Mendota schools and graduated with a Bachelors degree in animal science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In college, he was on the U of I livestock and meats judging teams, which won numerous national competitions. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves and then worked as a meat grader for the United States Government for 12 years. He then returned to the family farm to work full time with his brother, Lyle and later with his nephew, Todd and his brother, Tom. His passion was raising quality Angus beef cattle and staying abreast of genetic improvements in the breed.
