MACOMB - Two local students, Allison Hawbaker of Mendota and Jonathan McConville of Earlville, are among approximately 10 percent of Western Illinois University’s fall 2019 graduates who will be recognized for academic distinction during commencement ceremonies on Dec. 14.
The students will be honored on Dec. 13 at WIU’s Academic Honors Convocation and will receive a medallion for each honor, which they will wear at commencement ceremonies.
Hawbaker, who majored in music, will graduate with highest academic distinction, summa cum laude. To earn this designation, a student must have a minimum grade point average of 3.90.
McConville, an agriculture major, will be recognized as an Honors Scholar. To qualify, students in the Centennial Honors College must complete a set of honors requirements and achieve a grade point average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.
