NIU Dean’s List

DE KALB - Northern Illinois University has announced its fall 2021 dean’s list students. To earn this distinction, students must meet a minimum semester grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale in the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology or a minimum of 3.75 on a 4.0 scale in the colleges of Business, Education, Health and Human Sciences, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Visual and Performing Arts.

Local students who achieved this honor include:

Mendota - Hannah Ambler, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Psychology - B.S., Mendota High School; Melissa Camacho, College of Education, ELED-Bilingual/ESL, Mendota High School; Ilian Hernandez, College of Health & Human Sciences, Nursing, Mendota High School; Paxton Kennedy, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Economics - B.S., Mendota High School; and Elizabeth Medina, College of Education, Early Childhood Education, Mendota High School.

Earlville - Sandra Kofoed, College of Business, Marketing - B.S., LaMoille Community High School; and Harrison Vallaro, College of Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Tech, Community High School 94. 

NIU Fall 2021 Graduation

DE KALB - Almost 1,300 students received their degrees from Northern Illinois University in fall 2021. Among the graduates were three Mendota students, Erica Currier, Master of Science in Education, Literacy Education; Omar Guzman, Bachelor of Science, Accountancy; and Amy Kofoed, Master of Science, Data Analytics. 

UW-Whitewater Dean’s List

WHITEWATER, Wis. - Two local students, Mia Artman of Mendota and Holly Marsh of Earlville, were named to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Dean’s List for the 2021 fall semester. Artman is studying music and Marsh is studying art. These students have demonstrated their academic abilities by receiving a grade point average of 3.4 or above in a single semester.

“I want to extend my congratulations to every student who set high academic standards for the fall semester and achieved a high grade point meriting recognition through the college Dean’s List,” said John Chenoweth, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. “We are very proud of you! I encourage you to keep up the good work during the spring semester.” 

Kishwaukee graduates

MALTA - Kishwaukee College has announced the graduates for summer and fall 2021. Local graduates include Abigail Bremner Castle of Compton, CERT, Floral Horticulture, with Distinction; Scott M. Cansino of Paw Paw, CERT, Google IT Support; Juliana M. Prendergast of Paw Paw, Associate in Science; and Janette Solis of Paw Paw, AAS, Registered Nursing.

Graduation honors are divided into three categories based on final cumulative grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale: summa cum laude indicates a cumulative GPA between 3.75-4.0; magna cum laude indicates a cumulative GPA between 3.5-3.749; and cum laude indicates a cumulative GPA between 3.25-3.499. Students who fulfill requirements for a Certificate and have a final cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher are awarded a Certificate with Distinction. 

University of Iowa dean’s list

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Two local students, Madison Mikolasek and Curt Fitzgerald, both of Mendota, were named to the University of Iowa dean’s list for the 2021 fall semester. Mikolasek is a first-year student majoring in biology and Fitzgerald, a third-year student, is majoring in computer science and engineering.

Guidelines for inclusion on the dean’s list are:

  • Courses offered on a satisfactory/unsatisfactory (S/U) or pass/non-pass (P/N) basis do not count toward graded credit for inclusion on the dean’s list.
  • Undergraduate students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the College of Education, the College of Engineering, the Tippie College of Business, and University College who achieve a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.50 or higher on nine semester hours (fall 2021) or more of UI graded coursework during a given semester or summer session and who have no semester hours of “I” (incomplete) or “O” (no grade reported) during the same semester are recognized by inclusion on the dean’s list for that semester.
  • Undergraduate students in the Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine with fewer than nine semester hours (fall 2021) of graded credit, if deemed appropriate by the college.
  • College of Nursing students participating in clinical courses who have a total of nine semester hours of earned credit (fall 2021), with eight semester hours of graded credit and a GPA of 3.50 or higher. 

Iowa State dean’s list

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State University students, Sean Dullard of Mendota and Lisa Tordai of Earlville, have been recognized for outstanding academic achievement by being named to the university’s fall semester dean’s List. Dullard is a third-year student majoring in animal science and Tordai, also a third-year student, is majoring in agricultural engineering.

Students named to the dean’s list must earn a grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded course work.

Marquette University Dean’s List

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Local student Brooke Carroll of Mendota has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2021 semester at Marquette University in Milwaukee. Carroll is pursuing a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies.

To make the dean’s list, students must earn at least 12 credits for the fall 2021 semester and have no disqualifying grades. The GPA threshold varies by college - for the College of Education and the Klingler College of Arts and Sciences, undergraduate students must have at least a 3.7 to be included. The undergraduate GPA requirement is 3.5 for the Diederich College of Communication, the College of Business Administration, the College of Health Sciences, the Opus College of Engineering and the College of Nursing. All other programs have a 3.75 GPA minimum.
