MENDOTA - Darlene H. Spriet, 92, passed away Aug. 18, 2021 at Heritage Health in Mendota.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 27 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota with Rev. Susan Presley officiating. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Mendota immediately following the funeral. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the funeral service.

Darlene was born June 27, 1929 to Theodore and Wilhelmina (Sondgeroth) Becker, the eldest of five children raised on the family farm in Peterstown. She married Frank Spriet on Oct. 5, 1957 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Peterstown. He preceded her in death on April 29, 1980.

Survivors include four children, Jean Eich of LaMoille, Julie (Steve) Szigeti, Danny (Dawn) Spriet, and Connie Buchanan, all of Mendota; one sister, Sylvia Leffelman of Sublette; one brother, Don (Maureen) Becker of Geneseo; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Rich Becker; a sister-in-law, Cheryl “Chick” Becker; a brother-in-law, Gerald Leffelman; one sister, Joyce Gillan of Cherry; and two special sons-in-law, Brian Eich and Marv Buchanan.

Darlene had been employed at the Trouser Factory and Sam’s Steak House in Mendota before obtaining her degree in accounting from IVCC. She then simultaneously worked as a tax preparer, as well as a bookkeeper for Becker Automotive from 1973-2015, when she fully retired at the age of 85.
