THURMONT, Md. - Daniel Jason Otto, 43, of Thurmont, Md., formerly of Eldena, passed away July 10, 2017 in Baltimore, Md.
A celebration of life service will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, July 21 at Catoctin Creek Nature Center in Middletown, Md. A second celebration of life service will take place in Illinois at a later date.
Daniel was born to Richard and Peggy Otto. He married Erin Grossman in Dixon on Aug. 3, 2002.
Survivors include his wife; his parents; one brother, Jeff (Suzy) Otto; one sister, Lyneigh Otto; his grandmother, Gene Bell; and nine nieces and nephews.
Daniel graduated from Amboy High School in 1992 and from Illinois State University in 1998. He studied at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville’s Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology until 2000 and was employed for 14 years with the USDA. As an entomologist, he had a love of nature, insects and all animals. He also loved monster movies and was an avid collector of comic books and toys, especially Godzilla and Transformers. His enthusiasm for his passions was infectious and his smile brought joy to many. He was an organ donor.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to Dysautonomia International (www.dysautonomiainternational.org) and the Nature Conservancy (www.nature.org).
