MENDOTA – The Mendota City Council acted on zoning variance requests and announced the upcoming sale of property at its Aug. 2 regular meeting.

Alderman Jay Miller presented two zoning variance requests to the rest of the council, both of which were approved. The requests were from Lauren Kellen at 1204 Indiana Ave. to place a shed within five feet of the lot line and from Emily McConville at 1404 Ben Mar Ave. to place a shed within five feet of the lot line.

Miller also called for a committee meeting to discuss amending beehives and fences ordinances of the Municipal Code, to be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5 in the council chambers.

Alderman John Holland announced the sale of excess city property at 1107 Third Ave., 1402 Lincoln Ave., 905 Sixth Ave. and 1209/1211 Washington St. Bids on the property will be due between 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20 and will be opened at the regular council meeting that evening.

The city was informed that two bids were submitted to the state to resurface U.S. 52/Illinois Route 251 from U.S. 52 north to 0.3 mile south of the railroad overpass. This will also address ADA sidewalk ramps. Other work will include shoulder stone, pavement marking and raised reflectors. Bids were submitted by Advanced Asphalt Company of Princeton ($1,959,860) and Rock Road Companies of Janesville, Wis. ($1,973,099). Work is expected to begin in August or September with an estimated completion time of 65 working days.

The next regular meeting of the Mendota City Council will be Monday, Aug. 16 at 5:30 p.m.
