City Council discusses tax levy, pensions

MENDOTA – The Mendota City Council held a special telephonic meeting on Nov. 25 to discuss the tax levy and pensions.

Alderman John Holland announced that the annual Police and Fire Pensions are continuing to show positive returns. The Police Pension is funded at 59 percent and the Fire Pension is funded at 74.5 percent. He said the tax levy request from the police department is $620,000 and the tax levy request from the fire department is $186,000.

The council gave its approval to place the reports on file.

In reporting on the 2021 annual tax levy, Holland said there is no major change from last year. In fact, Holland reported that the levy should decrease from last year, from 2.47 percent to 2.37 percent, which would result in a decrease for homeowners on next year’s property tax bill.

The council will approve the final tax levy in December.
