City adopts agreement with ADM

MENDOTA – The Mendota City Council held a special meeting via online/telephone on Aug. 27.

The only action item was to adopt an ordinance authorizing a redevelopment agreement with ADM.

Alderman Jim Fitzpatrick said he has been getting inquiries about when the state of emergency will be lifted in Mendota.

At the Aug. 10 meeting, the City Council declared a Local State of Emergency and passed ordinances in regard to that state of emergency and the wearing of face coverings. This was in response to a five-fold increase in the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Mendota within the prior four weeks.

Mayor David Boelk responded by saying he could see the city lifting the state of emergency in the first part of September if the positive COVID-19 cases continue to fall like they have been lately. “I’d like to be out of this as quickly as possible,” he said. “We’re going to have to play it by ear.”

City clerk Emily McConville wanted to make it known that she can register people to vote in the upcoming election. The city building is currently closed to the public, but anyone interested in registering to vote can call the office at 815-539-7459 to make arrangements to get registered. The office hours are 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m.-noon on Saturday.
