FRANKLIN GROVE - The Chaplin Creek Muzzleloaders held their annual Pumpkin Shoot in Franklin Grove on Sunday, Oct. 18. The object of the competition was to demonstrate their marksmanship by seeing who could make the best face on a pumpkin using ball-and-powder guns. Despite a rainy Sunday, there was a dry stretch so the competition could take place.
First place in the shooting went to Chuck Pomazal of Dixon, second place was Dave Vlasaty of Paw Paw and third place was taken by Al Kleinstiver of DeKalb.
During events held on Saturday, Ethan Sheely, 9, of Leaf River was recognized as the best hatchet-thrower, and he also won a period hat and mitts in the auction.
