MENDOTA – Betty Louise Fry, 100, of Mendota, passed away, Dec. 8, 2023, at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Ottawa, following a short illness.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023, at First United Methodist Church, Mendota with Rev. Mary Bohall officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Visitation will be held Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota is assisting the family.

Betty was born Nov. 28, 1923, in Earlville to Floyd and Blanche (Nelson) Godfrey. She married Charles Fry on Oct. 11, 1952, and they enjoyed 32 years of marriage.

Betty is survived by three nieces, two nephews, four great nephews and eight great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Fry; her mother Blanche Kohr; her father Floyd Godfrey; stepfather Walter Kohr; sister Lucille Shebilla; and two brothers, Robert Godfrey and Floyd Godfrey, Jr.

Betty worked at Westclox for many years, but most of her working career was in food service, working with her mother and stepfather at Khoury’s Supper Club in Peru. Betty and Charles owned and operated the Curl Inn in Triumph and lastly Betty’s Tap in downtown Mendota before retiring.

Betty enjoyed her yearly vacations to Sanibel Island in Florida walking the beach and collecting shells. She took cruises to the Caribbean, Mexico, Hawaii and Alaska. But more than that she enjoyed the time she spent with family and friends, looking forward to Dominoes get-togethers with friends, notably Betty Bohn and Linda Grinka.
